Traditional Scones

Prep time - 10 minutes
Cook time - 12-15 minutes

Difficulty - Easy

Ingredients

75g Castle Dairies Welsh Butter  (cold)

350g Self raising flour

175ml milk

1 tsp baking powder

75g caster sugar

1 tsp lemon juice

50 currants, raisins or sultanas

1 egg to glaze

 

Serve with jam of your choice

Castle Dairies butter to spread

or double cream!

 

 

 

Method

  1. Pre heat oven to 200 degrees (fan)
  2.  Put flour, salt and baking powder into a bowl and mix
  3.  Slice the butter into cubes /pieces, add it to the mix and rub together with your hands to make a crumb like mix and then add the sugar and mix.
  4.  Add the milk and lemon juice and mix to form a dough
  5. Add sultanas and mix all of the ingredients
  6.  Lightly flour a surface and pat out the dough to around 4cm thick – make sure the dough is smooth and level! (Turn dough over a couple of times to make smooth)
  7.  Cut out the scones using a scone cutter
  8. Line a baking tray and put the scones a few cm apart
  9. Beat an egg and brush on the top of the scones
  10. Bake for around 12-15 minutes or until golden on top
  11. Serve with your jam of choice, butter, or clotted cream
  12. Enjoy!!
